Lionel Messi on the verge of reaching 800 goals

Lionel Messi continues to make history and wants to add another feat to his career. The Argentine forward is on the verge of reaching 800 career goals. Tomorrow’s second leg of the round of 16 tie against Bayern in Munich could see him reach the number. PSG hope to come back from a 1-0 deficit from the first leg in Paris.

Some sources report that Messi already has 799 goals, but Marca claim he has scored 798 goals, as the Spanish outlet do not include the goal that was given to Amorebieta for his own goal on 2 December 2012. It was a Messi shot that was, it seemed, going wide and the Athletic defender put it into his own net. Many gave it to Messi, but Marca are not awarding it to him, hence the 798.

PSG flew to Germany yesterday because of the strike in France on Tuesday, which is why Messi’s press conference was brought forward. “We’re in good shape and we’re capable of turning the situation around,” said the former Barcelona man.

He added: “It will be a very even match, very difficult, like the first one was. It was decided by fine margins. The Allianz Arena is a difficult place to win at, but we’re very excited to be able to continue on our journey in the Champions League”.

PSG beat Nantes 4-2 at the weekend and the win took Christophe Galtier’s side to 63 points in Ligue 1. They are now 8 points clear of Marseille in second place. Messi opened the scoring in the victory.
