Chelsea readying fresh cut-price approach for Barcelona sensation Cubarsí

Premier League giants Chelsea have not given up hope of luring Barcelona starlet Pau Cubarsí away from the club this summer.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who have this evening provided an insight into the latest developments behind the scenes in Catalunya’s capital.

Stopper Cubarsí, for his part, has of course exploded onto the scene at Barcelona over the course of recent weeks.

Afforded a chance to impress at the heart of Xavi’s backline, the Spaniard – who has only just turned 17 – has taken full advantage, courtesy of a string of standout displays.

Cubarsí has been lauded for his defensive instincts and calmness in possession, but above all for just how little his transition into senior football appears to have phased the teen.

And such endeavours have not gone at all unnoticed across the continent.

Cubarsí put pen to paper on a new contract in Catalunya last summer, but one which contains a release clause set at just €10 million.

A number of clubs from the Premier League, in turn, are beginning to circle.

Front and centre are Chelsea, who are understood to have first made an approach for the defender last year, prior to his new deal being inked.

And the Blues have not given up hope yet, ready to return with another proposal in an effort to lure Cubarsí to London.

The Barcelona brass, however, have no intention of allowing a player viewed as the future of the club’s backline to depart without a fight, therefore preparing a new-and-improved contract offer to Cubarsí and his representatives.
