Carlo Ancelotti responds to Man City star’s claim that Real Madrid are ‘strange’

Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti has provided his response to the recent comments laid out by Manchester City star Bernardo Silva, regarding his side.

For those who may have missed it, midfielder Silva turned heads over the weekend, in providing his take on the unique challenges posed by Ancelotti’s Real.

As much of course comes after Los Blancos sent reigning holders Man City packing from the Champions League last week.

Speaking in an interview with TNT Sports, as cited by Diario AS, the Portuguese labelled the La Liga leaders a ‘strange’ side:

“Real Madrid is a strange team. Sometimes it seems like you have control of the game and out of nowhere, they run twice (on the counterattack) and score two goals because their players individually are very good. They are so fast and strong on the counterattack that it is not easy to control them.

“If you attack with too many players, they run on the counter. If you don’t attack with many players, it feels like you’re not effective enough to attack them properly. So it is difficult to make these small decisions in the game.”

Speaking in a press conference on Monday, it therefore came as little surprise when such comments on Silva’s part were put to the aforementioned Carlo Ancelotti.

Questioned directly on what he feels the City standout may have meant in labelling his team a ‘strange’ one, the Italian tactician explained:

“Me? I don’t know. We are not strange. I think the weight of the shirt weighs in this competition, like the story, but I have nothing to say. He is a fantastic player. Last year they had a good time and this one, it was us. That’s what football is like.”
