Carlo Ancelotti confirms he ‘scolded’ one Real Madrid star at half-time in UCL final

Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti has admitted that he felt it necessary to ‘scold’ a key member of his squad, during Saturday’s Champions League final.

Real, of course, are fresh off clinching glory on the continent for the latest time late last night.

After making the trip to Wembley, goals on the part of Dani Carvajal and Vinícius Jr. proved enough to guide Los Blancos to a 2-0 downing of Borussia Dortmund.

As much, however, did not come easy.

Real Madrid, in truth, were dominated over lengthy stretches in London, with only some wasteful Dortmund finishing having spared the capital giants from falling behind on more than one occasion.

Speaking to the media after the dust had settled on his side’s eventual victory, the aforementioned Carlo Ancelotti, in turn, was drawn on the contents of his half-time team talk.

And the Italian tactician went on to reveal that he felt it necessary to make his frustration clear with one particular member of his squad.

Asked specifically about what he said to Vinícius Jr. at the interval during an interview with Movistar (as cited by The Metro), Ancelotti explained:

“I scolded him a little because I think that in the first half we were a little lazy and we had losses that we normally haven’t had.”

Real’s headmaster continued:

“We lost many balls when arriving in the opponent’s half and we thought that changing the system would be better for us, and to concentrate a few more players in midfield.

“We started with Valverde on the right but then Rodrygo played there and when we brought Valverde back to join Camavinga and Kroos and I think it was better for us in the second half.”
