In an emotional statement that appeared on his social media, Borja Mayoral said goodbye to Real Madrid.
The Spanish striker joined Getafe permanently for a fee of €10 million earlier this week.
Mayoral reflected on his time at Real Madrid:
“I arrived as a child with the dream of being a footballer. When I was 10 years old, I started to carry the Real Madrid crest in my heart. Fifteen years later, it’s my turn to say goodbye and it’s not easy for me. This club has seen me grow up, I have created a lot of wonderful memories and I have had some great experiences.”
He went on to discuss the impact his boyhood club had on helping him develop both as a person and as a professional football player:
“This club has shaped me as a player but above all as a person, transmitting a series of values that have helped me to become the person I am today. I have been able to experience moments that I never thought I would experience. At Real Madrid I have been able to play in great competitions, I have played with football legends, I have scored goals and won the Champions League.”
He closed his statement by saying that he will “always carry Real Madrid” in his heart.
