Barcelona star travels to join Athletic Club Copa del Rey celebrations

A member of the defensive ranks at Barcelona has been given permission to travel to Bilbao, to celebrate Athletic Club’s historic triumph in the Copa del Rey.

The player in question? Iñigo Martínez.

Stopper Iñigo, for his part, brought an end to his stellar five-year stint on the books of Athletic last summer, to link up with Xavi’s Barcelona on a free transfer.

Evidently, though, the 32-year-old remains a staunch supporter of his former employers.

This comes amid confirmation that Iñigo, with the blessing of the Barcelona coaching staff, today departed the club’s camp.

As much comes with a trip to Bilbao on the agenda, to join his former teammates in their Copa del Rey celebrations.

Owing to a penalty shootout downing of RCD Mallorca over the weekend, Ernesto Valverde’s Athletic Club brought an end to a painful 40-year wait for silverware.

Acutely aware of just how significant an achievement this represents for the Basque giants, Iñigo, as a result, was desperate not to miss out.

As per a report from Relevo, the Spanish international will be present on his own boat to accompany the famed ‘La Gabarra’ along its route through the waters of Bilbao on Thursday evening.
