Barcelona place €1 billion buyout clause on Ferran Torres

Barcelona have signed Spain international Ferran Torres on a five-and-a-half year contract, with a buyout clause of €1 billion.

The €1 billion clause matches that in the contracts signed in October by his new team-mates Pedri and Ansu Fati.

The 21-year-old had become frustrated with his lack of playing opportunities at Manchester City and was keen on a move to Barcelona after head coach Xavi showed his interest in the player.

According to The Athletic, Barcelona made their first approach for Torres in November and City made it known that they would accommodate a sale if the player wanted the move and a suitable offer was received.

Torres has moved for a reported €55 million with €10 million in add-ons. Barcelona will pay the fee in a number of installments over the coming seasons. He spent just 16 months at the Etihad Stadium, scoring 16 goals in 43 appearances in all competitions after signing from Valencia in the summer of 2020.
