Atlético Madrid set sights on Thiago Almada as Ángel Correa inches towards Saudi Arabia

The powers that be at Atlético Madrid have identified their priority target in the case of Ángel Correa sealing an increasingly likely departure from the club this month.

The player in the sights of Diego Simeone and co? Thiago Almada.

Almada, for his part, is currently plying his trade in the USA, with Atlanta United.

An attacking midfielder by trade, the 22-year-old is fresh off a stellar individual campaign, which saw him rack up a hefty 13 goals and 16 assists in 35 appearances across all competitions.

Also capped eight times by Argentina, it should in turn come as little surprise to hear of clubs across the pond beginning to express a keen interest in his signature.

As per a report from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Almada is ‘one of the top names’ on the list of Atlético Madrid, to replace Ángel Correa.

Attacker Correa, for his part, is inching ever closer to a departure from Madrid, amid a big-money approach from Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Ittihad.

And, should the Argentine ultimately move on, he could well be replaced by a fellow Albiceleste international, in the form of Almada.
