With the possible departures of Geoffrey Kondogbia and Axel Witsel this summer, Atlético Madrid are looking for a holding midfielder.
As reported by Mundo Deportivo, FC Porto’s Mateus Uribe is one of the current contenders for the role. Uribe has a similar profile to that of Héctor Herrera, who also joined the La Liga club from Porto.
Uribe will be a free agent and has experience both in Europe and at international level, The 32-year-old Colombian, whose contract expires this summer, would be a strong addition to Diego Simeone’s side.
Uribe’s good positional play, combined with his physical presence, has made him a mainstay in the Porto midfield.
According to reports, Atleti would be willing to offer Uribe a contract worth €3m a year. They would be competing primarily with Brazilian side Flamengo for the Colombian international’s signature.
