Atlético Madrid open negotiations over deal for Girona star

The board at Atlético Madrid have kicked into gear negotiations with their counterparts at La Liga rivals Girona, over the terms of a deal for a headline member of the Catalans’ squad.

The player in question? Artem Dovbyk.

Frontman Dovbyk is for his part fresh off a memorable campaign, from an individual and collective standpoint alike.

In terms of the latter, the Ukrainian played a pivotal role in Girona booking for themselves a place in next season’s Champions League.

And individually, he bagged the Pichichi award as the top scorer in La Liga, owing to an impressive haul of 24 goals.

All associated with Míchel’s troops, as a result, will no doubt be concerned to hear of their side engaging in discussions over Dovbyk’s potential sale.

As revealed by transfer insider Matteo Moretto of Relevo, Atlético Madrid have launched an assault on the signature of the 26-year-old, with a view to a joining of forces for next season.

Talks have been opened between the two clubs, with Atléti readying a first offer in the region of €25-30 million.

Girona, however, are expected to point towards the €40 million release clause included in Dovbyk’s contract, meaning a deal being struck, as things stand, is far from certain.
