Xavi to secure payout as Barcelona contract terminated

The powers that be at La Liga giants Barcelona have on Tuesday secured a contract termination agreement with departing head coach Xavi.

As much, of course, comes after the Spaniard was relieved of his duties by the club late last week.

Xavi’s contract in Catalunya’s capital had a year left to run, after the parties initially agreed to a relationship through the summer of 2025.

As confirmed by transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, however, as expected, the 44-year-old has agreed to forgo the entirety of the salary owed to him for next season.

This comes as a gesture of good will, so as not to add to the financial problems at the Camp Nou.

Xavi, though, will not depart empty-handed…

During termination talks with Joan Laporta and the Barcelona brass, the former midfielder did request a payment of €2.5 million.

This is the amount which Xavi paid out of his own pocket, to secure his dream return to Barca from Al Sadd back in 2021.

As per Romano, citing Toni Juanmartí of Diario Sport, the Blaugrana are understood to have agreed to as much, with the parties, as a result, officially heading their separate ways.
