Zinedine Zidane’s youngest son trains with Real Madrid’s first team

Enzo, Luca, Theo, and now Elyaz Zidane have all completed an apparent rite of passage in the family: training with the Real Madrid first team.

As reported by Relevo, Zinedine Zidane’s youngest son Elyaz was called up to first-team training at Valdebebas on Monday. The 17-year-old is a physical defender who can play as a centre-back or left-back. He was asked to join the squad by Carlo Ancelotti and his staff following the injuries to fellow defenders Ferland Mendy and David Alaba.

His older siblings went through the same process in their time. First Enzo was called up in 2011 by Jose Mourinho; followed by Luca in 2014, also at the request of Ancelotti; and most recently Theo in 2020, who was the first and only one to join training under his father, the former Madrid No. 5.

Theo Zidane is the only other sibling, apart from Elyaz, still at the club and plays for Real Madrid Castilla. Head coach Raúl appreciates his versatility and utilises him in various facets of the midfield.
