Xavi: “We played with self-respect, but it’s not enough.”

Barcelona suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Real Madrid in the ninth round of La Liga.

In his post-match interview that appeared on Marca, Xavi discussed the Blaugrana’s performance:

“We are in a negative cycle, but we are trying. We have faith, self-respect. It was an opportunity to remain leaders and we leave empty-handed. We had our moments and we didn’t take advantage of them and they defended very well.”

“I don’t think we were bad in the first half. We dominated Madrid. I have the feeling that we had our chances. In the second half they were very good. We lacked a lot of forcefulness. If we want to win these kind of matches, we have to change our mentality. In the end, we played with self-respect, but it’s not enough,” he added.

Xavi believes that the defeat is his responsibility:

“I don’t point the finger at the players. I’m responsible. It’s my mistake.”
