Xavi speaks out on Barcelona future after win over Napoli

Barcelona head coach Xavi Hernández has provided a fresh insight into his plans beyond the summer, on the back of guiding his side into the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Barca, of course, were back in action late on Tuesday night, welcoming Serie A champions Napoli to Catalunya for the 2nd leg of the Last-16 tie between the clubs.

And, when all was said and done, the Blaugrana did enough to march on, thanking goals on the part of all of Fermín López, João Cancelo and Robert Lewandowski for an eventual 3-1 triumph.

Despite a season which has frequently been written off as an utter failure, as much means that Barcelona remain in with a shot of sealing what would mark altogether unexpected glory on the continent.

Speaking to the media on the back of his side’s crucial victory, it therefore came as little surprise when his future was put to the aforementioned Xavi once more.

The Spanish tactician has of course long announced his intention to step down upon the conclusion of the campaign.

With things all of a sudden looking up in Catalunya’s capital, though, it has been suggested by some that Xavi staying put beyond the summer should not be ruled out.

If the latest comments on the part of the former midfielder are anything to go by, however, then those keen for as much to play out need not get their hopes up.

“You keep on asking me if I will stay if we win the Champions League,” Xavi began. “No, I will not. My future will not change. My response will not change. I will leave at the end of the season.”
