How much will Barcelona earn for booking Champions League quarter-final spot?

La Liga giants Barcelona have this evening secured for themselves a financial windfall, by way of booking their place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

The Blaugrana, of course, are fresh off an altogether memorable night on the continent.

After welcoming Serie A giants Napoli to Catalunya’s capital for the 2nd leg of the Champions League Last-16 tie between the clubs, Xavi’s troops held their nerve, to keep their European campaign very much alive.

Goals on the part of all of Fermín López, João Cancelo, and Robert Lewandowski proved enough to put Napoli to the sword by three goals to one, giving rise to a 4-2 aggregate result.

Barcelona, in turn, will join a who’s who of the continent’s top clubs in Friday’s draw for the Champions League’s last eight.

And yet, as alluded to above, sporting merit is not the only reason for those of a Blaugrana persuasion to celebrate on Tuesday night.

In addition, all associated with the club will no doubt be overjoyed to hear of a much-needed financial windfall heading the way of the Catalans.

As per Victor Navarro of COPE, the Barca board will soon be the recipients of a cool €10.6 million injection by way of UEFA.

This comes on top of the 50,000+ ticket sales for tonight’s clash, a timely boost for a club whose monetary woes have long been public knowledge across the football landscape.
