Xavi speaks on Barcelona’s La Liga title chances after damaging Granada draw

Barcelona head coach Xavi Hernández has this evening provided his thoughts on the club’s fading hopes of mounting a late-season push for the La Liga title.

Xavi, of course, guided his troops back into action a short time ago.

Fresh off a pair of much-needed back-to-back victories, Barcelona welcomed relegation-battling Granada to Catalunya, no doubt confident in their chances of making it a trio of successive wins.

When all was said and done, however, the Blaugrana’s efforts towards as much came up short.

This came as a pulsating affair, featuring six goals and a brace on the part of the brilliant Lamine Yamal, ultimately culminated in the spoils being shared.

The result deals what could prove to be a fatal blow to Barca’s title hopes in the Spanish top-flight, albeit with as much in truth having been hanging by a thread even before tonight.

The Catalans now sit a full ten points adrift of table-topping Real Madrid, with 14 games to play.

Speaking to the media in his post-match press conference on Sunday, the aforementioned Xavi was, in turn, asked for his take on the club’s chances of retaining their crown.

And the Spaniard was diplomatic in his response, explaining:

“The difference to win La Liga is huge, but nothing is impossible. But yes, [now] it would be very difficult to win it.

“Even before the match, winning La Liga was very difficult, but now it has become even more difficult.”
