Xavi left ‘hurt’ by Barcelona request in talks over future

A fresh insight into the situation on the bench at La Liga giants Barcelona has on Wednesday evening been provided.

As much, of course, comes amid what has proven another whirlwind couple of days for all of a Barcelona persuasion.

After reports began to mount that Xavi Hernández was inching closer and closer to going back on his decision to step down upon the season’s close, a series of updates surfaced this evening, pointing towards the exact opposite.

Now, it is understood, the 44-year-old’s future looks increasingly likely to lie away from Catalunya’s capital.

As per Diario Sport, a ‘radical turn’ has been noted in the Barcelona boardroom, which has seen a growing contingent begin to push for the appointment of a new headmaster with a view to next season.

And, if ensuing word to have surfaced over the last hour is anything to go by, then such uncertainty, it would appear, is steadily mounting on the side of both parties.

Speaking on his official Twitch channel, Barca insider Gerard Romero of Jijantes confirmed that Xavi, for his part, has been left ‘hurt’ by the Blaugrana hierarchy.

This comes with the former midfielder feeling betrayed by the requests of his bosses, to ensure his continuity into next season:

“Xavi is hurt because people at the club have kept asking him in the past weeks to stay and now that he has decided to reconsider his decision, the club has asked him to change part of his coaching staff, which he is not willing to do.”

Xavi’s team of coaches are known to be a close-knit group, which includes his brother, Oscar Hernández.

Unwilling to sacrifice members of his inner circle to satisfy the demands of the higher-ups at the Camp Nou, a parting of ways between the parties, in turn, is beginning to look very much on the cards.
