Atlético star forced out of training ahead of crunch Athletic Club clash

Atlético Madrid have on Wednesday been dealt a concerning blow on the personnel front.

This comes amid confirmation that Gabriel Paulista was forced into a premature departure from the club’s latest training session.

Atlético are currently in the process of preparations for an absolutely crucial outing this weekend.

Sitting just three points clear of their upcoming opponents in 4th in the La Liga table, Diego Simeone’s troops are set to welcome Athletic Club to Spain’s capital, for a Champions League qualification showdown.

Emerge triumphant, and the Rojiblancos will take a significant step towards ensuring their participation in European football’s elite club competition for next season.

One player who looks altogether unlikely to contribute towards as much, however, comes in the form of the aforementioned Gabriel.

As per a report from Mundo Deportivo, former Arsenal defender Gabriel suffered a sprained ankle in training on Wednesday afternoon.

The Brazilian was subsequently loaded into an ambulance, before being taken for immediate medical tests.

The severity of the issue remains to be seen, but Diego Simeone certainly looks set to be without the January addition to his squad on Saturday night against Athletic.
