Xavi doubles down on comments which led to Barcelona sacking

Barcelona head coach Xavi this evening reiterated his feelings regarding the difficult situation in which the club currently find themselves.

Barca are of course locked in action at present, in the club’s season finale, against Sevilla.

The matchup also marks the aforementioned Xavi’s last on the Blaugrana bench, after his dismissal was made official earlier this week.

Speaking to the media ahead of kick-off at The Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán, the subject of the comments which are understood to have culminated in his eventual sacking were put to the 44-year-old once more.

During a recent press conference, Xavi made clear his feelings that Barcelona face an uphill task in keeping pace with arch rivals Real Madrid, owing to a dire need for reinforcements, and a lack of funds with which to secure them.

Joan Laporta and co. took as much as a serious offence on the part of the club’s headmaster, concluding that their respective visions of the future simply do not align.

And yet, this evening, Xavi moved to double down on his previous assertions.

Adamant that the situation in Catalunya’s capital at present is far from ‘ideal’, he explained:

“I repeat, the club’s situation is very difficult. We do not have the ideal situation to compete in the best conditions. I repeat, this is the club’s situation at the moment and fans must understand that. From here we adapted to everything. We were flexible in everything that the sporting directors, the president, told us. We understood the situation at every moment.”
