Barcelona head coach Xavi Hernández has risked angering his counterparts at Girona, after failing to play down recent media links between the Blaugrana and Aleix García.
This comes after Garcia himself threw something of a spanner in the works at Girona earlier this week.
Barca, and the Blanquivermell, are primed to face off on Sunday evening, in the headline fixture of the La Liga weekend.
In turn, it came as a major surprise when midfielder García openly admitted to his desire to one day take his talents to his side’s Catalan rivals:
“I would like to play for Barcelona. It is the club that I have followed since I was little and the one that I have always liked.”
Such comments gave rise to frustration at Girona, with boss Michel having subsequently labelled García’s comments as ‘wrong’, amid speculation that the Camp Nou brass could now seek out a deal for his signature.
Another who was left altogether less bothered by the 26-year-old’s admission, though, comes in the form of the aforementioned Xavi.
Himself drawn on the situation during a press conference earlier today, the Barcelona headmaster, as cited by Mundo Deportivo, revealed his belief that García possesses the required qualities to play for his side:
“You have to understand him. Who does not want to play in Barcelona? He has the level to play for Barcelona.”
