An insight into the stance of Bayer Leverkusen head coach Xabi Alonso on his long-term future has today been forthcoming online.
The info comes courtesy of Sport1, who have confirmed that the Spanish tactician has a ‘dream’ destination in mind, upon bringing an end to his stint at the BayArena.
The name of ex-midfielder Alonso has of course taken its place front and centre in the headlines across Europe over the course of the last 24 hours.
This comes after the 42-year-old etched his name indellibly into the history books of German football, by way of Bayer’s 2-1 Bundesliga downing of Mainz:
As much, inevitably, has seen chatter surrounding Alonso’s future beyond the season’s close return to the spotlight, amid interest in the services of the Spaniard from the likes of Liverpool, and Bayern Munich.
If the latest word stemming from the media on Saturday evening is anything to go by, however, then such suitors, for the time being at least, look set to see their advances rebuffed.
That’s according to the aforementioned Sport1, who have revealed that Alonso is giving serious consideration to staying put at Bayer Leverkusen for the next couple of seasons.
From here, he would seek out the position on the bench at former club Real Madrid, under the assumption that Carlo Ancelotti will, at that point, have moved on.
Should Alonso change his mind, and enter into negotiations with the likes of Liverpool or Bayern this summer, he would in turn make clear from the off that any contract agreement would require a release clause, specifically with a view to his ‘dream’ Real switch down the line.
