An explanation for the lack of post-match comments provided by Real Madrid’s players in the aftermath of Sunday’s derby has been forthcoming online.
This comes amid confirmation that the call was made by the club’s staff, to avoid potential sanctions.
Real Madrid are of course fresh off an evening to forget on Sunday. After making the short trip across Spain’s capital to lock horns with city rivals Atlético, Los Blancos found themselves condemned to an eventual 2-1 defeat.
The 90 minutes at the Metropolitano were marred by controversy, after the visitors were left nothing short of disillusioned with the standard of officiating on display.
Real, as a collective, remain adamant that both Cristian Romero and Lee Kang-in should have seen red during the first-half.
And it was precisely this frustration which culminated in the decision being made for José Mourinho’s squad not to fulfil their post-match media commitments.
As per a report from Diario AS:
‘The atmosphere was so heated after what had transpired during the 90 minutes that the club decided none of the squad members would speak to the media, for fear that the person responsible might be sanctioned for what they had said.’
