Why Real Madrid star didn’t celebrate his late winner vs Roma

Real Madrid star Antonio Rüdiger opted against visibly celebrating his last-gasp winner for Los Blancos on Wednesday night. This comes owing to the German’s past at club level.

Real were of course back in action on the continent this evening, making the trip to Italy to lock horns with Serie A high-flyers AS Roma.

When all was said and done, Los Blancos emerged triumphant from a seven-goal thriller, to make it two wins from two following the international break.

But this only came owing to a trademark continental ‘Remontada’, capped off by the aforementioned Antonio Rüdiger.

With 10 minutes remaining, the visitors found themselves trailing by two goals, and looking all set for defeat. After attacking pair Carlos Espí and Endrick dragged José Mourinho’s men back on level terms, though, the stage was then set for Rüdiger to net a 90th-minute winner.

And yet, considered one of the most passionate and at times downright chaotic figures in world football, the experienced stopper did not celebrate his goal.

Why? Rüdiger spent two years plying his trade on the books of Roma, between 2015 and 2017.
