Why Real Madrid-bound Kylian Mbappé was benched for PSG vs Nantes

An insight into the absence of Kylian Mbappé from Paris Saint-Germain’s latest starting XI has come to the fore in the early hours of Sunday.

The name of frontman Mbappé took its place front and centre in the headlines once more late on Saturday evening.

This came upon word coming to the fore that the 25-year-old had been left out of PSG’s starting line-up for the club’s Ligue 1 meeting with Nantes.

The news gave word to widespread chatter in the media, with a whole host of outlets having pointed towards as much as having come as punishment, for Mbappé this week announcing his decision to depart the French champions in the summer.

Some even suggested that the call had come from the height of the boardroom at the Parc des Princes.

As much, however, has this morning been vehemently denied.

As revealed by transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, Mbappé – who went on to round out the scoring in a 2-0 PSG win at the Stade de la Beaujoire – was dropped to the bench to afford him some much-needed rest.

This comes with the Real Madrid-bound winger fresh off another starring display in midweek, which saw him open the scoring in a 2-0 Champions League downing of Real Sociedad.
