Why negotiations between Barcelona & Joshua Kimmich have ‘stopped’

A fresh insight into the ongoing efforts of La Liga giants Barcelona to bring in Joshua Kimmich has on Monday been provided.

The info comes courtesy of Diario Sport, and points towards major problems in Barca’s pursuit.

It is of course common knowledge that the Barcelona brass have long earmarked Bayern Munich star Kimmich as their leading target to reinforce the base of the club’s midfield with a view to next season.

After the departing Xavi previously gave the green light to the operation, the incoming Hansi Flick is understood to have done likewise.

Sport, in turn, suggest that contacts between the parties have long been ‘advanced’.

And yet, as of today, they have been brought to a standstill.

As much comes owing to Kimmich’s wage demands, and Barcelona’s inability to come anywhere close to meeting them.

The German international currently earns a figure close to €20 million gross-per-year at Bayern, and is likely to be seeking out a similar figure in any deal with Barca.

The offer laid out by Deco and co, however, falls some way short of as much.

Until the Blaugrana are able to return to a more stable financial situation, and secure their target of meeting the 1:1 rule, talks over Kimmich’s arrival have in turn been put on standby.
