Why Karim Adeyemi can’t have his desired Barcelona jersey number

Incoming Barcelona signing Karim Adeyemi will not be permitted to make use of his preferred jersey number for the seasons ahead.

That’s according to Diario Sport, who have on Wednesday provided an insight into the situation.

Frontman Adeyemi is of course set to be unveiled as the latest addition to Hansi Flick’s star-studded Barcelona squad at any moment.

After the Blaugrana brass thrashed out an agreement with their counterparts at Borussia Dortmund, the 24-year-old jumped at the opportunity to link up with fellow countryman Flick in Catalunya’s capital.

Adeyemi has since made his way to Spain, waiting for the green light to pull on the colours of his new club for the very first time.

But as alluded to above, in doing so, the explosive winger will not adorn his desired shirt number…

As per a report from Sport, owing to reasons from his personal life and career to date, Adeyemi had set his sights on Barcelona’s number 27. This jersey, however, is not available for the taking:

‘La Liga regulations [dictate that] players registered with a first-team card can only wear numbers from 1 to 25. From the 26th, the numbers are reserved for players with a reserve team record or who are not yet officially registered with the first-team.’
