Why Barcelona have ‘frozen’ their search for a new manager

An insight into the latest developments behind the scenes at La Liga giants Barcelona has come to the fore on Tuesday.

The info comes courtesy of Diario Sport, and surrounds Barca’s ongoing search for a new manager.

It is of course common knowledge across the world of football that the Blaugrana brass have long kicked into gear efforts to source a head coach ready to take up the reins at the club in the summer.

As much comes after Xavi, late in January, announced his intention to step down from his post upon the conclusion of the campaign.

First steps towards negotiations with a whole host of tacticians, in turn, have already been kickstarted.

As per the aforementioned Sport, however, at present, Barcelona’s manager pursuit is considered as ‘frozen’.

The initial plan on the part of Joan Laporta and co. was to have come to a definitive decision on Xavi’s replacement by the end of March.

The Catalans’ sudden resurgence, in particular on the continent, however, has seen such plans altered.

Now, ‘it is clear that nothing will move here until the limits of this project with Xavi on the bench are verified’.

In simpler terms, Joan Laporta will not give the green light to Barcelona seeing out their managerial search until the completion of the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

In the case of the Blaugrana advancing, the club’s president is readying one final push to convince Xavi to stay put.

Should the Spanish giants be sent packing by Paris Saint-Germain, however, efforts towards finding his successor will quickly kick back into gear.
