Why Atlético Madrid vs Sevilla was called off

Atlético Madrid were supposed to face Sevilla on Sunday, in what would have been a big clash in La Liga. Unfortunately, due to forecasts of torrential rain, La Liga were forced to make the difficult decision of calling the game off, Marca reported.

The State Meteorological Agency activated the red alert in Madrid because of the storm. Both teams announced the postponement of the game on their social media channels, early on Sunday.

The two teams have made very different starts to the campaign. Atlético are third after three games, winning two and drawing one, whilst scoring 10 goals and playing some scintillating football. Just last week they beat Rayo Vallecano 7-0. Sevilla on the other hand, are dead last in La Liga. They’ve lost three from three, conceding eight goals and looking dire.

Sevilla may be glad that the game has been called off, with Atléti in such fierce goalscoring form and raring to go in front of their home fans.
