It’s all in Barcelona’s hands. Xavi’s side can become La Liga champions on Sunday for the 27th time but will have to win against Espanyol to secure the title this weekend due to Real Madrid’s narrow 1-0 victory against Getafe on Saturday night.
With five matchdays left and 15 points at stake, Barça have 82 points, 11 more than Madrid on 71 (with only four matches to play) and 13 more than Atlético Madrid on 69. Atlético play Elche on Sunday as they look to move ahead of Madrid in second.
Espanyol are second from bottom in the table with 31 points, however, their direct rivals in the fight against relegation who have played in matchday 34, have all lost.
Getafe (34 points), were defeated at the Santiago Bernabéu (1-0), as well as Cádiz (35) at Mallorca (2-0) and Almería (36) against Osasuna (3-1). On Sunday, Celta Vigo (39) will play at home against Valencia (34) at 2pm local time and Real Valladolid (35) take on Sevilla at the Nuevo Zorrilla at 6.30pm.
