Barcelona’s supporters have flooded to social media on Thursday evening, to reveal their dismay with news of Lucas Bergvall’s decision to join Tottenham Hotspur.
The name of midfielder Bergvall has of course returned to the headlines in a major way in Catalunya late tonight.
Unfortunately for those of a Barcelona persuasion, though, this has come for altogether less than positive reasons.
The Swedish sensation had been in talks with Deco and the Blaugrana hierarchy throughout the week to date, over the prospect of taking his talents to La Liga this summer.
After Bergvall was spotted out for a meal in Catalunya’s capital on Tuesday, the widespread assumption, in turn, was that a deal between the parties was close.
It has therefore come as nothing short of a shock for all associated with the club late on Thursday, to hear of the Djurgårdens man having come to the decision to take his talents elsewhere.
As confirmed by transfer insider David Ornstein, Bergvall is all set to join Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur, on a long-term contract.
The reaction to the news amongst the Barcelona faithful, meanwhile, has since been as vicious as it has swift.
Evidently not taking into consideration Bergvall’s more straightforward path to first-team minutes at Spurs, Barcelona’s fans have taken to social media in their droves, to reveal their collective opinion that the news represents confirmation of just how far they have fallen as a club:
