As reported by AS, Villarreal have identified Gonçalo Guedes as a top target for the January transfer window. The club have stepped up their pursuit of the player after agreeing a deal to send Ben Brereton Díaz to Sheffield United on loan.
After completing the signing of Eric Bailly to reinforce the defence, the club are now targeting an additional winger. With departures in attack, the Vila-real outfit are now in a position to welcome the arrival of a forward player. Guedes is the main target and is the option that Marcelino wants, however, this deal will not be straightforward because of the situation of the player, although there is confidence that he would be open to returning to La Liga.
The Portuguese international is currently playing at Benfica, on loan from Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers. Despite this, the club will enter negotiations with Wolves, as Marcelino is obsessed with having players who know his system and are familiar with the league.
