Valencia’s woes continue

One of the most underperforming teams in La Liga this season, Valencia are currently 18th in the league.

Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Athletic Club saw Los Che drop into the relegation zone in what could be a pivotal moment in the season.

Besides the home defeat, Valencia suffered more than simply dropped points. As reported by Relevo, veteran striker Edinson Cavani had to be subbed off in the 20th minute of the game. Tests later confirmed he suffered a muscle injury which will require about a month of recovery time.

Currently, the team’s top scorer with seven goals, the Uruguayan legend will be sorely missed at Mestalla.

To make matters worse, Samu Castillejo, with his three league goals making him the next top scorer, will be suspended for a game having picked up his fifth yellow card of the season.

Valencia’s next match will be particularly important as they play Getafe in 19th place. The side from south Madrid have 19 points, while Valencia sit on 20 points.
