Three things from Real Sociedad’s La Liga win over Espanyol

Real Sociedad beat Espanyol 3-2 in La Liga on Monday night thanks to goals from Take Kubo, Alexander Sørloth and a Leandro Cabrera own goal.

Sergi Darder and Brian Oliván pulled goals back for the home side but it wasn’t enough as La Real ran out winners.

Here are three things from the match:

1 | No player has scored more goals than Alexander Sørloth in La Liga since the resumption of the competition after the 2022 World Cup. The Norwegian striker has netted five times since the tournament in Qatar, the same as Athletic Club player Oihan Sancet.

2 | Martín Zubimendi continues to impress in front of the La Real defence. His impeccable reading of the game and wide range of passing allows his side to regain possession and move the ball up the pitch. He gives the exciting forwards in the side the freedom to work their magic.

3 | Monday’s match saw Mikel Oyarzabal return to the Mikel Oyarzabal of old after he ruptured his ACL last year. He set up Sørloth to make it 2-0 to Imanol Alguacil’s side in Catalonia.

The win moves the Basque club four points ahead of Atlético Madrid, who currently sit in 4th place in La Liga.

La Real are now just three points behind Real Madrid in 2nd place. Los Blancos take on Elche in La Liga on Wednesday.
