Spain and Manchester City star Rodri made a point of publicly defending Barcelona’s Ferran Torres during the country’s World Cup celebrations.
This of course comes after the 26-year-old proved himself the decisive figure in La Roja lifting just their 2nd-ever world title.
Ferran was introduced off the bench on Sunday evening, as Spain locked horns with then-champions Argentina on the grandest stage in all of football.
And en route to an eventual 1-0 triumph, the former Manchester City man notched the only goal of the evening. Laid on courtesy of a clever Nico Williams knock-down, Ferran made no mistake in directing an unerring left-footed strike into the Argentine net.
This proved to be a moment of validation for the attacker, who has long been singled out for criticism by fans for his performances at club and international level alike.
During Spain’s title celebrations in Madrid on Monday night, the aforementioned Rodri therefore made use of the opportunity to show his support for his compatriot.
After labelling the frontman “a player who has been unfairly criticized and today is part of this country’s history,” midfielder Rodri led the crowd in chants of:
“Ferran, Ferran, Ferran, Ferran”
