Two Real Madrid stars ‘are not in José Mourinho’s plans’

Two current members of the first-team setup at La Liga giants Real Madrid do not feature in the long-term plans of manager José Mourinho at the club.

That’s according to The Athletic, who highlight Andriy Lunin and Raúl Asencio as the pair in question.

Neither goalkeeper Lunin or defender Asencio have enjoyed any sort of prominence in Spain’s capital across the early weeks of the new campaign. In fact, neither has been afforded a single minute of playing time.

And this development comes as no coincidence… In the case of the former, Lunin sits behind first-choice Thibaut Courtois in the pecking order between the posts at the Santiago Bernabéu. New boss José Mourinho, though, appears to be unhappy even with the Ukrainian’s status as 2nd-choice.

Stopper Asencio, meanwhile, has long been condemned to the sidelines owing to persistent injury problems. The 23-year-old, though, is also majorly out of favour, sitting behind all of Ibrahima Konaté, Dean Huijsen, Antonio Rüdiger and Éder Militão in Real Madrid’s centre-back ranks.

In turn, as per a report from The Athletic’s Guillermo Rai:

‘Back-up goalkeeper Andriy Lunin and centre-back Raul Asencio are among the players who are not in Mourinho’s plans. In Asencio’s case, the club looked to move him on this summer without success.’
