Thibaut Courtois remains a doubt for El Clásico

Thibaut Courtois is a doubt for El Clásico on Sunday 16 October, according to Cope.

At the time of writing, it is not 100% guaranteed that Courtois will be in goal for Real Madrid against Barcelona at the Bernabéu next Sunday. The Belgian netminder has also been left out of Carlo Ancelotti’s squad for Tuesday’s Champions League game against Shakhtar Donetsk.

The former Atlético Madrid shot-stopper has been suffering from pain along the sciatic nerve that has prevented him from playing against Shakhtar in Europe, and Osasuna and Getafe in La Liga.

The 30-year-old is being treated by physios and working in the gym to be back in time for the match against Barcelona.

Karim Benzema has returned to Madrid training after being rested in Saturday’s 1-0 win at Getafe.

Toni Kroos and Ferland Mendy were also rested against Getafe. Thibaut Courtois and Dani Ceballos will be the only absentees for the Champions League game, in which Madrid can mathematically seal their place in the last 16.
