A surprise story centering on La Liga giants Barcelona, and Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernández, has come to the fore in the Spanish media late this evening.
The info comes by way of Diario Sport, who point towards the latter as having set his sights on a move to Catalunya.
Having quickly become disenchanted with life in west London, amid Chelsea’s ongoing struggles, Enzo, it is claimed, ‘is seduced by playing for Barça’.
Not only that, but the Argentine has gone as far as to give his entourage the green light, to make contact with the Blaugrana over a potential summer deal.
The one major stumbling block in any such operation, however, would come in the form of the fee involved.
Chelsea splashed out upwards of €120 million for Enzo just 12 months ago, with his current terms in England’s capital running all the way through 2032.
Amid the club’s widely-publicised financial woes, it is fair to assume that Barcelona, as a result, could not come even close to the asking price laid out by their counterparts at Stamford Bridge.
Could a midfield swap deal, though, unlock the operation?
Word was forthcoming on Friday afternoon that Chelsea are keen on a summer deal for Frenkie de Jong, willing to fork over a sum in the region of €100 million for his services.
If the Dutchman is offered up in part-exchange for Enzo, could all parties, in turn, be left satisfied?
