Atlético’s latest offer contract revealed as captain Koke remains unconvinced

A fresh insight into the ongoing contract negotiations between the board at La Liga giants Atlético Madrid, and captain Koke, has been provided on Friday.

The info comes courtesy of Relevo, who point towards little progress as having been made.

Koke, for his part, is due to see his current terms at the Wanda Metropolitano expire in the summer.

A vital component in Diego Simeone’s midfield, and Atlético’s leader on and off the field, the powers that be behind the scenes in Spain’s capital have in turn long been pushing to tie the 32-year-old for the coming seasons.

The Rojiblancos’ most recent proposal, however, failed to convince Koke.

The offer in question centers on a two-year deal, through the summer of 2026.

Significantly, it would also feature a considerable wage cut, from the 70-time capped Spain international’s current €7 million-per-season terms, to less than €4 million.

As much falls ‘in line with the club’s policy and with what are the latest renewal proposals made to other players’.

And yet, as of Friday, an agreement being reached between Koke and Atlético looks some way off.

The will of the player, it is reiterated, is to prolong his stay in Madrid, with a view to ultimately hanging up his boots having lined out for just one club across the entirety of his career.

But, as the summer inches closer, and with it the conclusion of his contract, Koke is increasingly tempted by the prospect of a new adventure, in either the USA, or Middle East.
