Sevilla set to complete the signing of defender Marcao

After lengthy negotiations with Galatasaray, Sevilla are set to close a deal for €14 million between fixed and variable payments for defender Marcao, according to Goal.

The 26-year-old will be the club’s first permanent signing for the 2022-2023 season. He will be the replacement for fellow Brazilian Diego Carlos, who is joining Aston Villa.

The left-footed centre-back has notched up over 100 league appearances for Galatasaray since joining them in 2019. He played in 38 games across all competitions last season, scoring once but picking up 13 yellow cards.

Zenit St Petersburg were also interested in signing the defender.

Sevilla set off for South Korea on Thursday, on a 12-hour flight that will take them to their first pre-season training camp in Asia.

They will be there until 17 July, the day after facing Tottenham in Suwon, a match for which 44,000 tickets were sold in just 20 minutes.

Julen Lopetegui took 16 first-team players and 10 academy players to Korea. Four players were not included in the squad (Óscar Rodríguez, Rony Lopes, Idrissi and Berrocal) and several international players are still on holiday.
