Sevilla bound: García Pimienta bids emotional farewell to Las Palmas

Beloved Las Palmas head coach García Pimienta has on Wednesday made official his departure from the club.

As much comes ahead of an imminent move to another of La Liga’s clubs, in Sevilla.

Pimienta, for his part, took up the reins at Las Palmas back in January of 2022, taking over from the dismissed Pepe Mel.

And the Spaniard has since gone on to build a memorable legacy for himself in Gran Canaria.

After guiding Los Amarillos to promotion back to the top tier of Spanish football last year, Pimienta went on to oversee a comfortable survival this past season, courtesy of a 40-point haul.

Recent weeks, however, had seen speculation mount, pointing towards an impending departure for the former Barcelona youth coach.

This came after word was forthcoming that Pimienta had been identified as the leading candidate to replace Quique on the bench at Sevilla.

In turn, on Wednesday, it has come as little surprise to hear of the 49-year-old’s Las Palmas exit being made official.

Taking to his social media platforms this afternoon, Pimienta unveiled a heartfelt farewell message to all at the Estadio Gran Canaria:

“I am overwhelmed by the love received. This island, these people and these fans… you are truly extraordinary, I will be eternally grateful to you.

“I am no longer a coach of the Unión Deportiva Las Palmas , but my status as a canarion will be eternal. I hope our paths meet again.”
