Schalke consider former player Raúl as future head coach

Sport Bild report via AS that Bundesliga side Schalke are considering former player and current Real Madrid Castilla head coach Raúl as a future candidate for the hotseat at the club.

The future of current coach David Wagner is up in the air and the Castilla boss is highly admired at the German club and on their shortlist of potential replacements.

42-year-old Raúl started coaching in Real Madrid’s youth setup before taking over at Castilla, who play in Segunda B, Spain’s third tier. Castilla had enjoyed a mixed campaign before the season was cancelled due to COVID-19 – winning 10 games, losing eight and drawing 10.

Schalke have lost four out of four since returning to action in May and “a return for Raúl is not out of the question.”

The former Spanish international scored 28 goals in 66 Bundesliga appearances for the Gelsenkirchen club during his spell from 2010 to 2012.
