Roberto Jiménez retires from football

Last night Roberto Jiménez announced his retirement from professional football on his social media channels.

The Spanish goalkeeper signed a three-year contract with Valladolid in 2020. However, the club and him arrived at an agreement that could see the termination of his contract a year early so that he can retire.

Jiménez announced his retirement with an emotional message:

“I would never have thought that this date would mark a before and after in my life. It was the day on which the most exciting, demanding and rewarding adventure I could have ever imagined began. Today, on the 5th of September 2022 I decided to end my career as a professional footballer and change the course of my life.”

The 36-year-old thanked all the clubs he played for and showed special appreciation towards Olympiacos and Atlético Madrid:

Thank you to Olympiacos for giving meaning to my career and special thanks also to Atlético Madrid for the football and educational training they gave me for more than 10 years.”

He also hinted that he is hoping to continue working in football:

“From you, dear football, I will not say goodbye. You still have a lot to know about me.”
