Robert Lewandowski surpasses two legends in Barcelona history books with brace vs Celta

Barcelona star Robert Lewandowski etched his name firmly into the club’s history books, late on Saturday night.

This came by way of the Pole’s latest match-winning performance in front of goal.

Barca, of course marked their return to action a short time ago, making the trip to Celta Vigo with sights set on an immediate return to winning ways.

With a full 96 minutes on the clock at Balaídos, however, as much looked set to evade the Catalans.

This came after Robert Lewandowski’s opener was cancelled out by Iago Aspas early in the 2nd-half.

But, deep into injury-time, the evening’s visitors were afforded a golden opportunity to snatch all three points.

This came upon Lamine Yamal being subjected to a foul in the Celta Vigo penalty area, culminating in a swift Barcelona spot-kick.

And that man Lewandowski took responsibility, slotting home in confident fashion to spark understandably passionate celebrations across Xavi’s squad.

The Blaugrana, in turn, emerged with all three points, a timely boost in their efforts to hunt down 2nd-placed Girona in the La Liga table.

As alluded to above, though, the efforts of Barcelona’s match-winner on Saturday did not only prove significant from a collective standpoint.

In addition, they saw frontman Lewandowski continue his climb up the all-time goalscorer list at the Camp Nou.

After first surpassing David Villa with his 49th goal in the colours of the Catalans, Lewa followed up by climbing clear of Thierry Henry with his last-gasp 50th against Celta.
