Revealed: How much money Xavi is forfeiting to terminate Barcelona contract

An insight into the extent of the financial sacrifice being made by Xavi Hernández and his staff to depart Barcelona in the summer has been provided this evening.

The subject of Xavi’s future, of course, has dominated the Spanish football headlines over the course of the last 48 hours.

This comes after the Spanish tactician dropped something of a bombshell.

Fresh off seeing his Barca side put to the sword in alarming fashion by Villarreal, Xavi made use of his ensuing post-match press conference to confirm that he had taken the decision to step down.

The 44-year-old, as a result, will vacate his post upon the completion of the campaign.

Xavi’s call has since been met with shock on the part of both Barcelona’s board, and players.

This comes with the former midfielder, despite the Blaugrana’s recent struggles, having maintained the full support of all at the club.

Xavi himself, though, appears adamant that he is doing what is best for the Catalans.

And, as alluded to above, on Monday, an insight into just how heavy a sacrifice the tactician is truly making, to ensure that his beloved club are not financially crippled by his departure, has been provided.

As per a report from Diario Sport, the contract extension penned by Xavi in Barcelona last year featured a hefty pay rise.

The terms of the deal were centered around an €8 million-per-year wage for the Spaniard, as well as €4 million spread amongst his staff.

Xavi and co, however, have agreed to forfeit the entirety of this sum, a remarkable gesture from all involved.
