Referees association confirm 2 of 3 VAR decisions in Real Madrid’s favour vs Almería were wrong

A fresh insight into the fallout stemming from Real Madrid’s comeback victory over Almería at the weekend has been provided late this evening.

The info comes by way of El Larguero, who have dropped something of a bombshell when it comes to the major decisions which of course went in the favour of Carlo Ancelotti’s Real.

The subject of the officiating performance at the Santiago Bernabéu on Sunday has dominated the headlines in not only Spain, but across the continent over the course of the last 48 hours.

This comes amid the widespread agreement that bottom-of-the-table Almería, after steaming into a shock two-goal lead, were left high and dry by the team of officials.

Over the course of the 2nd-half alone, the visitors saw a goal disallowed, penalty awarded against them, a controversial Vinícius Jr. finish allowed to stand, and the Brazilian avoid what looked a nailed-on red card.

To this point, despite the external pressure, the powers that be in La Liga had refused to budge amid calls for referee Francisco Jose Hernandez Maseo and his team to be held accountable for their actions.

As alluded to above, though, late on Tuesday, a fresh twist in the tale has been confirmed.

As per a report from El Larguero, the CTA (Technical Committee of Referees) have recognised that Alejandro Hernandez Hernandez – the man in charge of VAR at the Bernabéu – got two major calls wrong during the 2nd-half.

The first came in the form of his penalty call for Kaiky’s handball, and the 2nd the decision to allow Vinícius Jr’s ‘handball’ goal to stand.
