Athletic Club steal late point in Basque derby

Iker Muniain’s 91st minute free-kick earned Athletic Club a late, late point in the Basque derby at the Reale Arena on Sunday night.

Alexander Isak put La Real in front from the penalty spot on his 100th game for the club. The home side couldn’t hold out against Athletic, who finished the game with 10 men after Iñigo Martínez was sent off for an incident with Isak and subsequently picked up a second yellow card.

Real Sociedad goalkeeper Alex Remiro will be devastated for his part in the equaliser as his failed punch resulted in Muniain’s free going in with just minutes left on the clock.

Real Sociedad move one point ahead of Real Madrid at the top of the table but have played one game extra. Athletic are 8th in the La Liga standings with 18 points after 11 games.
