Real Sociedad dealt Brais Méndez blow before Alavés

*Update* – It has since been confirmed that Méndez has suffered ‘a fracture of the base of the fifth metatarsal of his right foot’.

La Liga outfit Real Sociedad have on Wednesday been dealt an altogether untimely blow on the personnel front.

This comes amid confirmation that a key member of the club’s midfield ranks has picked up an injury.

The player in question? Brais Méndez.

As per a report from Mundo Deportivo, Méndez was forced into a premature departure from training alongside the rest of Imanol’s squad on Wednesday.

The 27-year-old is understood to have pulled up suddenly during a group drill, with his journey to Poliklinika Gipuzkoa, alarmingly, having been aided by a pair of crutches.

MD in turn point towards a potentially ‘serious’ injury having been suffered.

Upon the completion of a round of medical tests this evening, Real Sociedad are expected to release a statement, confirming the extent of the damage done.

Whatever the case, though, Méndez certainly looks set to be ruled out of La Real’s post-international break return to action against Alavés this weekend.
