Real Madrid’s summer targets: Kai Havertz and Harry Kane on shortlist

One of the agreements that came out of the meeting between Real Madrid and Carlo Ancelotti at Valdebebas on Thursday morning is that two strikers will be signed this summer.

Joselu is on the verge of joining from Espanyol, and Madrid will also go for another forward, with Kai Havertz and Harry Kane on the shortlist drawn up, as reported by Relevo.

The signing of Kane is far from easy. Firstly, for the moment, Karim Benzema’s departure has yet to be confirmed, and he could be off to Saudi Arabia to earn €200m over two years. Benzema could also end up staying in the Spanish capital until 2024.

In the event that Benzema decides to stay at Madrid, it is unlikely that the club will carry out an investment for Kane that could exceed €100m.

If Benzema were to leave, Madrid would have much more room for manoeuvre and, above all, a pressing need to acquire a top No 9 with goals guaranteed.

Havertz

Havertz – who is 23 and finishes his contract at Chelsea in 2025 – is a player Florentino Pérez enjoyed watching in his last two Champions League matches against Real Madrid.

This operation would be much more feasible than the one for Kane. The cost would be lower due to the fact that for Mauricio Pochettino, Havertz is reportedly not a priority, and the Argentine coach would allow him to leave to make room for another signing at Stamford Bridge.

For Real Madrid, he would be a strategic signing because of the way he plays. He would fill the gap left by Marco Asensio, and he can play on either flank and also through the middle as a false nine.
