Real Madrid vs Barcelona: who has been the most successful in El Clásico?

There have been a total of 249 competitive Clásicos and 34 exhibition or friendly games during Real Madrid and Barcelona’s long-standing rivalry.

Madrid’s last Clásico success was a 2-1 win at Camp Nou in October 2021, which was notable as Ronald Koeman became the first Barça manager since Irish manager Patrick O’Connell in 1936 to lose three consecutive Clásicos. The win was also Madrid’s 100th triumph in El Clásico, taking Carlo Ancelotti’s side to four wins ahead of Barça’s 96 (at the time) in the historical rivalry.

Xavi’s Barcelona won last time out at the Bernabéu, surprising Los Blancos with a 4-0 win in the Spanish capital. Madrid hold the upper hand in the Clásico stakes with 100 victories, while the Blaugrana have won 97 times. The sides have drawn 52 times in El Clásico.

Including friendlies (they are unofficial in terms of historical standing), Barcelona have won 117 Clásicos to Madrid’s 104. Barça lead the way in friendlies between the clubs, winning 20 out of 34. There have been 10 draws and Madrid have won just four of the 34 friendlies.
