Real Madrid to sign Antonio Rüdiger on four-year deal

Real Madrid have reached a verbal agreement with Chelsea defender Antonio Rüdiger, according to Fabrizio Romano.

A number of European giants have been vying for the German’s signature, particularly given sanctions extended Chelsea’s woes.

Barcelona were rumoured to be very close to signing Rüdiger, with Joan Laporta and Jordi Cruyff even meeting his agent at a Catalan hotel. Now, however, Los Blancos seems to have won the race.

Rüdiger will sign for Real Madrid on a free transfer, with the final details yet to be discussed. The deal is expected to be long-term, with Romano reporting until June 2026.

Rüdiger was impressive in the Champions League quarter-final ties against Real Madrid. The German has been pivotal at Stamford Bridge under Thomas Tuchel’s management, and if he maintains his current level, will provide Madrid with fantastic depth at the heart of the defence next season.
